Error description

  • When working with string fields with multi-byte characters (such
as Japanese) in IBM SPSS Modeler 15.0, exporting to a SPSS
Statistics data file (*.sav) truncates these values.

This actually caused by incorrect string length was used to
    export the .sav file.

For example, if you open the TYPE node, you can see the max
string length for a column was 6. This column contains a
maximum length of 6 characters. But when exporting to .sav file,
the STATISTICS EXPORT node will treat 6 as byte count but not
character count. Since the STATISTICS EXPORT node use UTF8
encoding, it will export only two characters, all other
    characters will be truncated.

Local fix

  • This has been reported to IBM SPSS Modeler development team for
investigation. This issue is expected to be resolved in a future
Fix Pack of IBM SPSS Modeler. Please refer to the following link
for a schedule of future Fix Packs:
    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21599157

Current workaround is to edit the TYPE node and set the max
string length to be at least 3 times the longest value of your
dataset. For example, if your string field has 6 characters, set
the max string length to 18. You can also set it to a much
higher value, such as '100', to accommodate longer string values
    being imported into the dataset.
