PM79406: CHTYPE OF AN ELEMENT TO TEXT_FILE DOES NOT CLEAN UP TEMPORARY CONTAINERS IN SOURCE POOL UNTIL CHTYPE COMPLETES

APAR status

• Closed as user error.

Error description

• This is a regression of APAR IC47334. Changing the type of an
  element such as a compressed_file to text_file in IBM Rational
  ClearCase will rebuild the source container for the element by
  creating multiple temporary containers for each version. The
  temporary containers are not cleaned up until the end of the
  entire operation, which can be a problem in terms of disk space
  when the element is of significant size and has many versions.
  
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Create an element of type compressed_file
  2. Check in 1000 versions of the element, adding text to each
  version
  3. Change the type to text_file and monitor the size of the
  source pool during the operation.
  
  Workaround: No known workaround.
