APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • An error "Failed to open test data" can be raised with a stack
    trace when an attempt is made to open a data source file, from
    the data source definition. An error dialog is then shown by
    Tester.

    This exception needs to be caught so that the error message
    includes details of the registry entry which could not be read.

    It should not be the case that a failure to get an individual
    command for the extension should stop the "Open With" dialog
    from opening.

    The "Open With" dialog would benefit from a "platform default"
    button which effectively ran the native ShellExecute function
    (since this code is already platform dependent).

Local fix

  • Open file manually through operating system.

    * USERS AFFECTED:                                              *
    * All users of GH Tester and Rational Integration Tester on *
    * Microsoft Windows                                            *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * When a users attempts to open a test data set file (e.g. XLS *
    * or CSV) Tester looks up which application is associated with *
    * this file extension from the Windows registry. If the *
    * logged-in user doesn't have permission to read the registry *
    * then an error will occur which prevents the user from *
    * opening the file.                                            *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Updated to Rational Integration Tester 8.0.1 or later. *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • This problem was resolved in version 8.0.1 of Rational
    Integration Tester. If Tester cannot read the registry then it
    acts as though the key was not found and asks the user how they
    want to open the file.
