Error description

  • Using the new Sentinel RMS License Manager that came with IBM
    SPSS Statistics 21, will create incorrect values for the
    distribution of licenses if the operating system used is set to
    Japan Locale.

    Once created, the Redundant Licenses (WrlfTool) will normally
    display:
    Feature, Version, Distribution
    1200, 210, host1:<# licenses>, <host2:0>, <host3:0>

    But when the LM is housed on a JP environment, the WrlfTool
    displays:
    Feature, Version, Distribution
    1200, 210, host1~<# licenses>, <host2~0>, <host3~0>

    Notice the use of the tilde (~) symbol instead of a colon (:) to
    display the hostnames and number of licenses.

    This prevents the distribution of licenses and our product
    cannot be used by our customers in Japan. Creating the same
    license on a English locale (in this example using a Linux
    environment) works as expected when using the same hostnames and
    license parameters.

Local fix

  • This is a 3rd Party issue with SafeNet, who develops the
    Sentinel RMS License Manager utility. This issue has been
    reported to the IBM SPSS Statistics development team for further
    investigation.

    Since this is a 3rd party defect, the fix for this issue will be
    targeted for the next release of IBM SPSS Statistics.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * This problem cannot be reproduced in internal testing within *
    * IBM SPSS Statistics development. The use of the tilde (~) *
    * character instead of a colon (:) is a planned move by *
    * Safenet due to IP version 6's use of colon as part of an IP *
    * Address. When tested by IBM SPSS, the redundant license *
    * manager is still able to distribute licenses as well as *
    * allow check-out of commute licenses.                         *
