PM76539: Unable to specify the Shift_JIS page encoding for a property group in the web deployment descriptor

Error description

• Abstract:
  
  Attempts to specify the Shift_JIS encoding for a property group
  in the web deployment descriptor fails as it is not a supported
  encoding in the deployment descriptor editor.
  
  Problem:
  
  To recreate, perform the following:
  
  1) create a dynamic web project and open the web.xml with the
  deployment descriptor editor.
  2) Select Add JSP configuration ? Add Property Group ? Page
  Encodings.
  
  Only 4 types of page encoding (ISO-8859-1, UTF-8, UTF-16,
  Unicode) are listed and it is not possible to add others, for
  example, Shift_JIS.
  
  If the XML source of the deployment descriptor is modified to
  add this encoding then the following error occurs:
  
  'Page Encoding : The value is not among the possible
  selections'.
  
  Local fix:
  
  There is no known workaround at this time.

Problem conclusion

• The reported problem is a permanent limitation of the
  Rational Application Developer 7.5 release; however, the fix
  is included in Rational Application Developer v8.0.4.2.
