Error description

  • When using the OS/390 indexer with DOC type reports, an index
    value may be incorrectly taken from a prior document.
    
    Here are the correct example index values shown in the hit list
    
    REPORT01
    REPORT02
    REPORT03
    REPORT04
    
    But instead the following index values are shown:
    
    REPORT01
    REPORT02
    REPORT02 <- Incorrect
    REPORT04
    

Local fix

  • Remove GROUPMAXPAGES=1 from the indexing parameters.

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the OS/390 Indexer.             *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When the following three conditions are *
    *                      met:                                    *
    *                                                              *
    *                      1. When using a GROUPMAXPAGES indexing  *
    *                      parameter with an INDEXSTYLE=DOC        *
    *                      indexing parameter and                  *
    *                                                              *
    *                      2. The page which starts a new document *
    *                      is based on the conditions specified in *
    *                      the:                                    *
    *                         - TRIGGERS with TYPE=GROUP           *
    *                         - INDEXES with BREAK=YES and         *
    *                                                              *
    *                      3. The page specified in 2 above is     *
    *                      also the page where the                 *
    *                      GROUPMAXPAGES condition is met          *
    *                                                              *
    *                      If and only if all the above conditions *
    *                      are met then the program was            *
    *                      inconsistent in deciding to extract     *
    *                      index values for INDEXES with           *
    *                      BREAK=YES, possibly resulting in new    *
    *                      documents being stored using index      *
    *                      values from the previous document.      *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

    The program is now consistent in extracting index values for
    the page that starts a new document, regardless of why the new
    new document is started.
