Error description
Attempts to restart the SAService results in the warning message 'SAService service on Local Computer started and then stopped' in IBM Rational System Architect (SA). Symptom: ------- You see the following warning message window. ------------------------------------------------------------ Services ------------------------------------------------------------ The SAService service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. ------ OK ------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Configuration: ------------- Environment = Microsoft Windows (R) Tool = IBM Rational System Architect (R) Version = 11.4.2 (build 690) Integration = SA Process Integrator Steps to Reproduce: ------------------ 1) Run services.msc. 2) Start the SAService if is not already running. 3) Wait for it to start. 4) Restart it. Expected Results: ---------------- The SAService to restart and no warning messages as described in the Symptom. Actual Results: -------------- The restart operation gives the warning messages as described in the Symptom. WORKAROUND 1) Click OK on the message 2) Wait for approximately 30 seconds. 3) Then try to start SAService. 4) The SAService should now start without issue.

Problem conclusion
It seems like the socket is not being closed properly: Service cannot be started. System.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException: Remoting configuration failed with the exception 'System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---? System.Net.Sockets.SocketException ----------- There is a fairly simple workaround and the issue is not consistently reproduced. There are no plans to address the issue. The client has agreed to concede, accepting the workaround.
