Error description

  • The IPCS "LOGEX" facility developed to extract IMS log records
from the IMS log buffers in a dump abends SB37 when more than
about 1400 OLDS buffers are defined with BLKSIZE 24K or 26K.
Recent versions of IMS can support up to 9999 OLDS buffers.
    ..
In the reported problem scenario, the space for the LOGFILE
dataset was defined as (CYL,(1,3)), and the SB37 occurred at 46
cyls / 16 extents. Because this space value is hard coded, the
user had no way to circumvent the problem.

The IPCS LOGEX facility, which extracts IMS log records from
the log buffers in an IMS dump, encounters an ABENDSB37 when
more than about 1400 OLDS buffers are defined with a BLKSIZE
of 24 to 26K. Recent versions of IMS can support up to 9999
buffers, but space for the LOGFILE dataset was defined using
(CYL,(1,3)), and the B37 abend occurrs when 46 cylinders and
16 extents are allocated. Because this space value is hard
coded the user has no way to circumvent the problem.

    ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS:

The MSGFILE dataset is also vulnerable to this abend due to
its default allocation size. Finally, the LOGFILE dataset has
LRECL=32756 and BLKSIZE=32760 attributes that do not allow for
    effective space utilization.

Problem conclusion

  • GEN:
    KEYWORDS:

    *** END IMS KEYWORDS ***
The DFSEWDSN REXX module was updated. Namely, the space for the
LOGFILE dataset and for the MSGFILE dataset was defined as (CYL,
(8,24)) to fit the limit of 9999 OLDS buffers. In addition,
LRECL=24572 and BLKSIZE=24576 were specified for the LOGFILE
    dataset.
