PM68578: RECEIVE MESSAGE FMNBA324 WHEN USING DSC FUNCTION AND OUTPUT DATASET IS DD DUMMY WITH INVALID BLKSIZE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When running File Manager DSC function, and output dataset is
  defined as DD DUMMY without a BLKSIZE parameter (and invalid
  blksize is determined), receive message FMNBA324.

Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED: File Manager functions that invoke DF/SORT.  *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When running a function that uses       *
  *                      DF/SORT and subsequently abends, File   *
  *                      Manager produces a message:             *
  *                      "FMNBA324 A data set, or volume full    *
  *                      condition occurred while attempting to  *
  *                      save this data set "                    *
  *                      This message is only applicable to      *
  *                      certain types of system abends. It is   *
  *                      not applicable to DF/SORT user abends.  *
  *                                                              *

  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF.                      *
  ****************************************************************
  When DF/SORT abends,  message FMNBA324 is used unconditionally
  and is inappropriate for DF/SORT user abends and most system
  abends.

• File Manager has been updated to produce message :
  FMNBB023 ABEND code ccc-nnnnnnnn - operation cancelled.
  for a system abendcode
  or
  FMNBB023 ABEND code uuuuuuuu-nnnnnnnn - operation cancelled.
  for a user abend code
  when DF/SORT abends and appropriate DF/SORT options are active.
