Error description

  • After a customer increased their MESSAGEPOOLSIZE and RGN, their
    Classic server went down when restarted.  There was a system
    size limit that was reached but no messages were issued by
    Classic to give an indication of the error.

    The users define the Message Pools size on in the configuration.
    The size defined must be backed up by real memory defined by
    the Region Size on the JCL.   If the Region size is not defined
    large enough then the server will stop suddenly when memory is
    exhausted.   The problem is a message is not produced telling
    the user that this is the cause of the servers sudden stop.
    

Problem conclusion

  • A new message
    
    CAC00155I Memory Allocation error. The region size reserved to
              satisfy the request is insufficient
    
    has been added to notify the user that the server
    has hit a out of memory condition.  The new message
