Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                 Server V6.1, V8.0, and V8.5 for z/OS         *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Applications are restarted when a Web *
    * server is added to their target *
    *                      mappings.                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Applications are restarted when a Web server is added to their
    target mappings. Assuming that no other changes are made,
    there is no reason to restart an application when a Web server
    is added to its target mappings.

Problem conclusion

  • The application restart logic was enhanced to not restart an
    application when it is reasonably possible to make this
    determination. Generally, if target mapping changes to an
    application do not affect the application on a given server,
    there is no reason to restart the application on that server.

    APAR PM67677 is currently targeted for inclusion WebSphere
    Application Server V7.0 Fix Pack 7.0.0.25.
