Error description

  • You are attempting to route transactions across an IPIC
connection and receive an S0C4 in DFHZATS, with a message
    similar to the following:
    .
DFHAP0001 An abend (code 0C4/AKEA) has occurred at offset
    X'00001042' in module DFHZATS.
    .
If the first 4 bytes of the IPIC connection name happen to be
the same as the local system sysid, a skeleton entry may not be
created, and ZATS may continue as if one actually existed. Field
TCTTESKA, at TCTTE +x'70' is x'00000000', leading to the S0C4.
    .
There might be other problems when using an IPIC connection with
a name that is longer than 4 bytes such as a NOT_FOUND exception
    returned by ISIC INQUIRE_IPCONN.
    .

Local fix

  • A local work around is to use unique 4 bytes IPIC connection
    names in all the regions.

    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Abend 0C4/AKEA occurs in DFHZATS when *
    * the length of the IPIC connection name *
    * is longer than 4 characters in *
    *                      transaction routing.                    *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
Transaction routing is being used. The IPIC connection name on
the AOR has more than 4 characters and the first 4 characters
happen to be the same as the local SYSID. When setting up
transaction routing environment on the AOR, CICS treats this
IPIC connection as the local region and skips creating the
required skeleton TCTTE. However, DFHZATS doesn't realise this
and tries to use the skeleton TCTTE field. This causes abend
ASRA in DFHZATS leading to abend 0C4/AKEA.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHISXM has been changed to issue abendAIPU when transaction
routing is being used and the IPCONN name is greater than four
characters as documented in the CICS Transaction Server for
z/OS Version 4 Release 2, Resource Definition Guide, Chapter 16
    IPCONN resources.

CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 4 Release 2, CICS
Messages and Codes Vol 1, GC34-7175-01 has been changed. A new
abend code AIPU is added in Chapter 2 Transaction abend codes,
    Section AIxx abend codes:

Explanation: For CICS 4.1 and later, IPCONN names that are
longer than four characters are not supported in transaction
    routing between CICS regions.

System action: The task is abnormally terminated with a CICS
    transaction dump.

User response: Correct the IPCONN names so that they are not
longer than four characters if used in transaction routing
    between CICS regions.

    Module: DFHISXM
