Error description
Provide a FM server option for supporting mixed-case password. ------------------------------------------------------------ The following issue is also addressed by this APAR: When the File Manager server (FMNCAS) issues console messages, they are uppercased. Messages such as FMNBB622 and FMNBB626 contain path names, so may be misleading when uppercased.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the File Manager plugin for * * Eclipse * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1. Users entering passwords in mixed * * case where the z/OS system does not * * support mixed case passwords receive * * an error * * "CommunicationSecurityException: * * Invalid authentication credentials" * * and need to respecify the password. * * 2. When the File Manager server * * (FMNCAS) issues console messages, they * * are uppercased. Messages such as * * FMNBB622 and FMNBB626 contain * * path names, so may be misleading * * when uppercased. * * 3. Message FMNBB626 is not issued * * when the fmnserv file is created * * by the server. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** 1. File Manager does not have a determination of the support for mixed case passwords, however the authentication method is sensitive to the appropriate case. 2. File Manager inappropriately uppercases console messages. 3. A test for issuing message FMNBB626 after fmnserv creation was incorrect.
Problem conclusion
Temporary fix
Comments
1. A new option for the server, MCASEPW has been added, in order to indicate support for mixed case passwords on the system. If mixed case password support is not indicated, the password will be uppercased for the authentication method, allowing for case sensitivity only when the z/OS system supports it. That removes the need to uppercase passwords in the eclipse plugin when the z/OS system does not support mixed case. DOC update for Customization Guide Document Number SC19-3133-03 APPENDIX1.5.1.1 Syntax of the SERVER statement SERVER MCASEPW=YES|NO,PORT=port_num,MAXCONN=max_conn, PATH=/path_name/FMNSPAWN MCASEPW specifies if this system supports mixed case passwords. If omitted, the default is NO and passwords will be uppercased before the authentication method is called. 2. File Manager will no longer uppercase messages written to the console, allowing the pathnames to be presented in their correct case. 3. File Manager server will issue FMNBB626 as intended after creating the fmnserv file.
