**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 9 for z/OS users who bind the plan * * with ACQUIRE(ALLOC) option. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: While performing static binds, the * * following abends might be encountered * * due to storage overlay: * * * * ABEND0C4 at DSNGESIS+0BB6 OR * * * * ABEND04E RC00E20029 at * * DSNXEFB.DSNSVBK+09CA OR * * * * ABEND0C4 at DSNSLD1 .DSNSVBK +1DE8 * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** During the DB2 9 migration process, many binds with ACQUIRE(ALLOCATION) option caused various abends due to storage overlay. A storage overlay can occur when the size of a control block that DB2 builds during bind exceeds 4K. A plan that references a partitioned table space with more than 241 partitions will result in a control block greater than 4KB.
Problem conclusion
DB2 code was changed to intelligently process those control blocks whose size is larger than 4K to avoid unnecessary storage overlap. Additional Keywords: SMCOVERLAY
