APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
A web service implementation class that extends another class might result in a wsdl file that shows superclass methods, but these superclass methods cannot be invoked. A client attempting to invoke one of these methods receives a fault message similar to: "The endpoint reference (EPR) for the Operation not found is ... If this EPR was previously reachable, please contact the server administrator."
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server with JAX-WS Web Services * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An operation in WSDL cannot be * * invoked, an "operation not found" * * fault message is received by the * * client. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Install a fix pack containing this APAR. * **************************************************************** There was an inconsistency in the logic used to determine accessible operations between WSDL generation tooling and the webservices runtime. In the case where there is no service endpoint interface and there is no @WebService annotation on the superclass, WSDL lists superclass operations for which the webservice runtime did not allow access. For example, @WebService public class A extends B{} public class B{ @WebMethod public void foo(){} } The WSDL for class A would contain an operation foo, but foo would not be reachable if invoked.
Problem conclusion
The webservice runtime is revised to allow inherited methods to be invoked in this case. This behavior change is enabled by setting the JVM property jaxws.runtime.inheritedImplMethodsAccessible=true For more details on how to set the JVM property, refer to the article "Java virtual machine custom properties" in the Information Center for your WebSphere Application Server version and operating system. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.23. The issue does not occur in version 8.0. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
Temporary fix
Annotate the superclass with an @WebService annotation, or specify a Service Endpoint Interface class in the subclass's @WebService annotation.
