Error description

  • A user defines the eXtreme Scale client properties path in the
XS admin console. The properties file specified has
transportType defined to a value other than SSL. The defined
value of the transportType is not used and instead SSL is always
    used.

Local fix

  • If the transportType is TCP/IP do not define a security.props
file in the eXtreme Scale client properties path.

The connection status for the catalog service domain in the
monitoring console remains in "Connection Error" state after
the connection using client authentication was properly
    configured.
This problem occurs when a client security
configuration file is defined on the system hosting the
monitoring console. The path to this file is specified in the
eXtreme scale client properties path file on the
Settings > eXtreme Scale Domains > domain_name panel.
The runtime interprets the transportType property that is
specified in the client security configuration file as
"SSL-Supported" instead of the specified "TCP/IP" value.
As a result, repeated attempts to make
a connection that fail because SSL
properties are not specified. The following
    exception results:
    [10/3/11 9:58:44:591 ICT] 3d383d38 ORBRas E
    com.ibm.ws.orbimpl.transport.WSTransport createServerSocket
ConfiguredGridPoller ORBX0390E: Cannot create listener thread.
    Exception=[ org.omg.CORBA.INTERNAL:
    CAUGHT_EXCEPTION_WHILE_CONFIGURING_SSL_SERVER_SOCKET,
    Exception=com.ibm.websphere.ssl.SSLException:
SSLContext could not be created due to null SSL properties.
    vmcid: 0x49421000 minor code: 7completed: No ].

    StatsRetrieverRouter:
    connection failed to wxsHost01P:11809,wxsHost02P:11809
    ....

Problem conclusion

  • The runtime was corrected to read the transportType specified
in the client security configuration properties file. This
correction allows the correct transportType value to be used.
Attempts to connect to the catalog servers using the SSL
transport when SSL properties are not specified are prevented.
