Error description

  • Reorg utility using unload/reload paralleism (MSGDSNU1160I
issued) might get multiple abends, like abend0C1 or abend0C4
in csects like DSNUGSTA or DSNUSTBL, followed by abend04E
RC00E20005 in 0E20005 DSNSVBK +1AB6 (caller: DSNIDALC) due
    to storage overlays .
The occurrence and extent of the storage overlay is definitely
data dependent and depends on the size of a pre-existing storage
area and the size of the data records being processed.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: REORG TABLESPACE with parallel unload/ *
    *                      reload processing failed with ABEND0C4  *

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply corrective PTF when available. *
    ****************************************************************
User ran a REORG TABLESPACE that utilized unload/reload
partition parallelism (i.e. MSGDSNU1160I issued). The utility
failed with ABENDS0C4 in DSNUGSTA +x'1D48' in the RELOAD phase
due to a storage overlay on one of the work areas, which was
caused by incorrect program logic in not validating the work
area was of sufficient size before it was used.

    Additional symptoms:

    - ABEND0C1 ABENDS0C1
    - ABEND0C4 in DSNUSTBL + x'19AC' , +x'19AC'
    - ABEND04E RC00E20005 in DSNSVBK + x'1AB6' , +x'1AB6'

Problem conclusion

  • Code has been modified to ensure the aforementioned work area
is allocated with sufficient size before its usage.
