Error description

  • When the server comes back up, the plug-in receives a 503
    response; but 503's are a special case: when the plug-in gets a
    503, it will retry the request to another server but should not
    mark the server down. As such, it doesn't change the server
    state. In this case the server was down so it remains down; but
    there is also a bit indicating that the server is being retried
    to prevent a flood of requests from going to a server when it
    just starts up. This bit is never reset.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Plugin may not mark a server up when *
    *                      server responds with a 503 after        *
    *                      being down.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When a server comes back online and responds with a 503
    (service unavailable) plugin may not mark the server up and if
    it fails to mark the server up, no further attempts to use
    this server will be made.

Problem conclusion

  • Plugin is designed to retry the request to other available
    servers when a 503 response is received. If the request was
    retried, the server responding with the 503 would not be
    marked up.

    Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.41 of WebSphere Application Server V6.1.
