Error description

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: File Manager Display Vtoc *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The DVT function may waste processor *
    * and I/O time when encountering volumes *
    * that do not have a valid z/OS vtoc or *
    * that have an empty VTOC. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
File Manager was not always performing a validity check on the
extents of a VTOC, and then attempting to scan such VTOCs for
entries matching the requested pattern. Empty DSCBS for non
indexed volumes were also being unnecessarily stored
    internally.

Problem conclusion

  • File Manager DVT processing has been updated in order to always
check the validity of vtoc extents in order to avoid unnecessary
processing and to avoid storing empty DSCBs for non indexed
    volumes.
