Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 9 for z/OS and DB2 10 for z/OS users * * of REORG TABLESPACE utility * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Data corruption with mixed row format * * after REORG TABLESPACE completion. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply corrective PTF when available. * **************************************************************** User has a table space containing records in Reordered Row Format ( RRF ), as indicated by the header page of the pageset. However, as a result of DSN1COPY or other causes, the directory and catalog indicate the pageset is defined in Basic Row Format ( BRF ). When a REORG TABLESPACE is run against the table space as described above, the utility makes a program logic decision based on the row format indicator in the directory. Due to the row format mismatch between the directory and the actual data, this inadvertently causes REORG to process the records in the wrong format, which can result in potential data corruption where records with different row format can reside in the same data page. This problem can also occur when the directory indicates RRF while the actual data is in BRF. A similar problem can happen on row format mismatch on partitions of a partitioned table space, but no data corruption should occur on a non-partitioned table space as a result of REORG due to row format mismatch between the directory and the actual data. Additional symptoms: - SQL failed with ABEND04E RC00C90101 DSNIMOFR ERQUAL5022 - SQL failed with ABEND04E RC00C90216 DSNIRNXT ERQUAL53CD
Problem conclusion
Code has been modified to enable REORG TABLESPACE to detect the aforementioned row format mismatch between the directory and the actual data, and to rectify the data records format to match that indicated by the directory. This rectification is applicable to both partitioned and non-partitioned table space.
