    ****************************************************************
Some connectivity problems in SIP relate to clients that
reside behind a NAT (Network Address Translator) or a
firewall. Typically, such networks allow clients to send
messages to the server, but prevent the server from sending
messages back to the client. These problems, and their
standardized solutions, are described in RFC 3581 - "An
Extension to the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for
Symmetric Response Routing", and RFC 5626 - "Managing
Client-Initiated Connections in the Session Initiation
    Protocol (SIP)".

Problem conclusion

  • The problem is fixed by implementing RFC 5626 ("outbound") and
RFC 3581 ("rport"). With this new feature, the SIP (Session
Initiation Protocol) container supports the "outbound" and
"rport" protocol extensions at the server side. Clients that
reside behind a NAT (Network Address Translator) or a
firewall, will be able to traverse the firewall and
communicate with the server, by implementing the same protocol
    extensions at the client side.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 1.0.1.11 for the Feature Pack for Communications
Enabled Applications. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
