Error description
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) container fails to handle an invalid CANCEL
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) users of * * IBM WebSphere Application Server Feature * * Pack for Communications Enabled * * Applications (CEA) * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The SIP server does not respond to * * invalid CANCEL requests * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The problem occurs when a SIP client attempts to cancel a non-INVITE transaction, by sending a CANCEL request to the application server. Although such client behavior is a violation of the SIP protocol (RFC 3261 section 9.1) it exposes a bug in the server. The server should reply to the CANCEL with a 481 (Transaction Does Not Exist) response, but instead, it throws a ClassCastException and returns no response to the client.
Problem conclusion
The problem is fixed in the SIP container. With this fix, the server replies to invalid CANCEL with a 481 (Transaction Does Not Exist) response. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 1.0.0.13 for the Feature Pack for Communications Enabled Applications.
