Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All File Manager Users * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Various problems relating to the * * invocation of File Manager from a * * Language Environment (LE) enabled * * application such as a COBOL or PL/I * * program. * * Symptoms include: * * - Message: 'User I/O exit xxxxxxxx * * terminated because of LE problem, * * RC=16' when using an HLASM I/O exit * * - AbendU4088 RC63 when creating a * * template for a PL/I copybook or when * * using the FM Auto detect option for * * Compiler Language Selection. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** Because File Manager uses LE preinitialization services (via CEEPIPI) to create the excution environment there were a number of problems and limitations when invoking FM from an environment where LE is already active (such as from a COBOL program). Problems included: 1. Incorrect handling of a non-LE enable HLASM I/O exit. 2. Incorrect call to the PL/I compiler. Restrictions include: - The SPIE operand of the LE TRAP option should not be set so that the File Manager abend handler will function correctly. TRAP(ON,NOSPIE) is recommended. - An LE-enabled I/O exit cannot be used - MOD_DATE REXX Built-in function cannot be used. - Scramble Exit (if used) must be in Assembler (non-LE) - Library Management exit (LMS=USERLMS) cannot be used.
Problem conclusion
File Manager has been updated to correct the problems related to invoking FM from an active LE environment. The restrictions will be documented as part of this fix. ----------------------------------------------------------- Publication Closing Code: DEVCHNG For the documentation changes associated with this APAR, please refer to: ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/websphere/awdtools/ filemanager/fmv11apar.pdf The changes are to the following publications: PUB ID PUB NAME ------------ ---------------------------------------- SC19-3133-00 File Manager for z/OS V11R1 Customization Guide The latest published manuals can be found at: http://www.ibm.com/software/awdtools/filemanager/library/ index.html.
