Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users with a large quantity of data that * * might exceed normal timeouts during * * the teardown process. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When the teardown process occurs * * on container server, data is lost * * duing the shard promotion. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** For shards have a large quantity of data that might take several minutes to replicate to a new shard, the container server teardown timeout might remove the existing primary shard before a new primary shard has all of the data. As a result, the primary shard seems to have lost data because the data did not successfully transition from the old primary shard.
Problem conclusion
Allow a new shard to copy from existing replica shards if the old primary shard is removed before the transition is complete.
