APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Entering a FIND command using as the string 'eex', where x is
some integer, causes an S0C4 abend.

FM is interpreting the eex as an exponent - albeit an invalid
one. It abends because it doesnt handle the 'invalid' value.

Local fix

  • Exclude all lines. Then search for the 'ee' (with or without
    the quotes).
Next, scan for the integer in the NX (not excluded) lines.

    e.g. To search for 'ee2':

    X ALL
F 'ee' ALL or F ee ALL
    F '2' ALL NX

Manually scan the 'found' lines for ee2.

    * and a FIND command is issued with a *
    * parameter of EEn, where n is a numeric *
    *                      digit, File Manager may ABENDS0C4.      *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
File Manager is assuming the FIND parameter is an exponent when
checking a numeric field and is abending when the exponent
    is not a valid number.

Problem conclusion

  • File Manager will validate the possible exponent value and
bypass FIND processing of numeric fields if the FIND parameter
    is not a valid exponent.
