Enablement for APAR PM31813 (PREVENT ABEND04E RC00E2000C DSNGEFLC.DSNSVSVB BECAUSE EDM SKPT RTS POOL IS FULL)
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Customer could receive the ABND04E * * RC00E2000C at DSNGEFLC.DSNSVSVB+0AAA or * * stop db2 could take long time. * * * * This APAR provides enablement for DB2 * * changes made by pre-conditioning APAR * * PM31813. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Internally DB2 maintains a list of real time statistics (RTS) control blocks to keep tracking the packages execution. RTS service task wakes up periodically to externalize the last used information to SYSPACKAGE table. However, Table space SYSTSPKG could be in STOP or READ only state,in this case DB2 will defer externalizing RTS record. If SYSPACKAGE remains in this state persistently, the RTS control blocks could pile up which eventually exhausts the RTS storage. The accumulated RTS records could also result in a long shutdown time.
Problem conclusion
APAR PM31813 provides pre-conditioning support for this APAR. This APAR adds a new DB2 subsystem parameter in DSN6SPRM named DISABLE_EDMRTS that allows you to specify whether to disable collection of real time statistics (RTS) by the DB2 Environmental Descriptor Manager (EDM). Valid settings are: * NO : Indicates that the EDM is to collect RTS to track the "last used" information for packages. DB2 then periodically records the information in the SYSIBM.SYSPACKAGE table. Recording is deferred if the SYSTSPKG table space is not available. ==> This is the default and recommended setting * YES: Disables collection of RTS by EDM. Use of YES may be appropriate in the following situations: - There is no need to collect last used information for the packages. - The SYSIBM.SYSPACKAGE table is persistently unavailable preventing recording of EDM real time statistics. - Deferred externalization of these statistics results in excessive DB2 shutdown time. - Performance degradation occurs due to collection of these EDM statistics. See the ++HOLD actions of the PTF for this APAR for guidance on changing the setting of DISABLE_EDMRTS. If RTS function is on and the number of RTS not externalized reaches the threshold, all RTS records will be discarded and DB2 will issue the message similar to the following: DSNT500I @ DSNGERTS RESOURCE UNAVAILABLE REASON 00C90306 TYPE 00000210 NAME DSNDB06 .SYSTSPKG.00000001 The new reason code RC00C90306 is introduced with this APAR. Explanation DB2. detected Environmental Descriptor Manager (EDM) real-time statistic (RTS) information can not be externalized. The error is probably caused by the SYSTSPKG table space being in a not update-able state. When this happens, the statistics are being discarded because they can not be externalized. System action A warning message could be issued. Before this warning message, the customer could receive a DSNT500I message that indicates the EDM RTS can not be externalized because SYSTSPKG is in a state other than update. Problem determination Message DSNT500I is issued to identify the resource type and reason. User response Make sure the SYSTSPKG table space is in an update-able state. If the SYSTSPKG table space is in an active status and the above error is still returned, collect the following diagnostic items: Console output from the system on which the job was run. SVC dump (or system dump), taken to a SYS1.DUMPxx data set, as result of an operator-initiated dump command or SLIP trap exit.
