Error description

  • Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) does not parse the Via branch
    correctly.

The SIP container is removing all characters in SIP Via header's
branch field that are present after an ' (apostrophe). This
causes the SIP container to believe the subsequent new INVITE
that comes in with unique Call-IDs are retransmissions for
previous INVITEs (because when SIP container strips off the
characters after the apostrophe the branch ID values match) .
SIP container just retransmits its original response and it
    breaks the call.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The problem is in the SIP parser, when processing a header
parameter value. The parser does not recognize the apostrophe
(ASCII code 39) or the grave accent (ASCII code 96) as valid
characters in the token. This results in a broken parameter.

Problem conclusion

  • The bug is fixed in the SIP parser. With this fix, header
parameters are parsed correctly, including the apostrophe and
    grave accent characters.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 1.0.0.11 for the Feature Pack for Communications
Enabled Applications. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
