  After many extend failures, ABEND04E RC00E2000C was issued
  because Index Manager temporary workarea IMCMPHB8K reached its
  max allocation.
  .
  It looks like the work areas were not freed during abend
  processing. Because the index work area pool is common, it needs
  to be maintained by abend recovery routine.

  Index manager requires temporary storage to be allocated to
  perform tasks, such as index page splits and garbage
  collection. If a thread is in the middle of one of these
  tasks that allocated storage and the thread is cancelled,
  the allocated storage will not be freed and become orphaned.
