PM26963: -XRUNHPROF FAILS WITH HPROF TERMINATED PROCESS ERROR MESSAGE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Using -Xrunhprof:cpu=samples will result in no profiling data
  being collected. The same error occurs when other collection
  options are used:
  HPROF ERROR: Can't open /jvm.hprof.txt ￭hprof_io.c:741
  HPROF TERMINATED PROCESS
    The error messages indicate file jvm.hprof.txt cannot be
  opened.  However, checking the current working directory , file
  java.hprof.txt has been created, but is empty.
  

Local fix

• If possible, use Java5 instead of Java6
  

Problem summary

• In zOS environment, the path of the file 'java.hprof.txt' was
  not properly populated. Another problem observed was that ASCII
  to EBCDIC conversion was not done properly and as a result, part
  of the data in the output file was not readable.
  

Problem conclusion

• This defect will be fixed in:
  6.0.0 SR9 FP2
  .
  JDK is modified to properly populate the path to the file
  'java.hprof.txt' and ensure ASCII to EBCIDIC conversion while
  reading/writing data
  .
  To obtain the fix:
  Install build 20110118 or later
