    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The On Demand Configuration (ODC) *
    * component can cause high CPU and OOM *
    *                      conditions.                             *
    *                                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The On Demand Configuration (ODC) component recovery logic can
    cause a multitude of getTreeRequestTimeout task objects to be
    scheduled resulting in a near continuous flood of
    getTreeRequests being sent causing a high CPU condition and
    the potential for an OutOfMemoryException due to the added
    stress on the HA Manager Bulletin Board.

Problem conclusion

  • The On Demand Configuration (ODC) recovery logic has been
    corrected to properly cancel the getTreeRequestTimeout tasks,
    ensure no more than one getTreeRequestTimeout task is
    scheduled at any given time on a single process, and delay the
    resend of a getTreeRequest by 30 seconds if the getTreeRequest
    is destined for the same process that the last getTreeRequest
    was sent to. Thus avoid the potential for the recovery logic
    to cause high CPU and OOM conditions.

    APAR PM23608 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
    Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.13 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
