Error description

  • Performance issue in Cafe:?It takes almost 10 mins from log on
    until user can start to work with packages in CAFE. During that
    time CPU on the client is maxed out. ??If you disable the usage
    of an auto config proxy file in Internet Explorer, this behavior
    can't be observed anymore.??In addition, the size of the auto
    config proxy file is in relation to the time consumed. The
    larger the auto config file, the longer it takes.

Problem conclusion

  • Add files to handle proxies.
    This feature relies on two registry settings being set.
    
    NOTE: Before installing this hotsite patch you must first uninst
    all your current version of Cognos 8 BI Analysis for Microsoft E
    xcel.
    
    1.  Uncompress the .GZ file to a temporary location.
    2.  Browse to the analysis_excel folder.
    3.  Execute the SETUP.EXE file.
    
    For customers also using IBM Cognos 8 Go! Office prior to versio
    n 8.4.6063 you must also upgrade to this version. Please contact
     Customer Support for access to this version.   Previous version
    s of Cognos 8 Go! Office must be uninstalled before upgrading.
     See the support site for a list of fixes included in the IBM Co
    gnos 8 Go! Office release.
    
    Please Note: The fix for the following issue requires an additio
    nal step to complete.  This fix should only be implemented if yo
    u are encountering the following issue.
    
    281989 - Performance issue with CAFE when using large auto confi
    g proxy (*.pac) files
    
    We rely on pactester to run the FindProxyForURL method required
    to be in all PAC files. Pactester is an external program that we
     will not ship with IBM Cognos 8 BI Analysis.
    Version 1.0.8 of Pactester can be found here:
    http://code.google.com/p/pactester/
    
    In order to turn the feature on, user must edit the registry to
    add a key. Please follow the steps as listed below:
    
    NOTE: For 64-bit version of Windows 7, the registry key is HKEY_
    LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cognos\CAFE
    
    1) Click on Start and then select Run.
    
    2) Enter “Regeditâ€? and press enter.
    
    3) In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE section locate the SOFTWARE node.
    
    4) In the SOFTWARE node locate the COGNOS node.   If COGNOS is n
    ot there you must manually create it.
     a)  Right click on the SOFTWARE node.
     b)  Select New Key from the popup menu.
     c)  Enter COGNOS and press enter.
    
    5) In the COGNOS node create a CAFE key.
     a)  Right click on the COGNOS node.
     b)  Select New Key from the popup menu.
     c)  Enter CAFE and press enter.
    
    6) Under the CAFE node create a String Value called .
     a)  Right click on the CAFE node.
     b)  Select New/String Value.
     c)  Enter PacParser and press enter.
     d)  Right click on the created PacParser entry and select Modif
    y...
     e)  Enter the location of the PacTester.exe without specifying
    the exe itself and press             enter.
    
    Exit the RegEdit program.
    
    To disable this fix you delete the PacParser registry key.
