Local fix
Problem summary
Problem Summary: Remote Action results in NullPointerException in RenderAppletTag.doStart and "An error occurred within the portlet. Contact your Administrator." Detailed Problem Description: The null pointer is only seen when traces are enabled. However the user will see "An error occurred within the portlet. Contact your Administrator." and will be forced to logout and login to recover the Authoring UI. Enabling general wcm traces will reflect the following error when the issue is recreated. getWindowId(): returning 669e669e R java.lang.NullPointerException R at com.ibm.workplace.wcm.app.ui.portlet.tag .RenderAppletTag.doStartTag(RenderAppletTag.java:123) R at com.ibm._jsp._AuthoringUIView ._jspService(_AuthoringUIView.java:661). . .
Problem conclusion
Problem Analysis: The remote action is fired from a launch page and therefore the current view is null. The code does not currently handle a null view. Problem Solution: The code has been updated to handle the null view and to set the launch page as the main view to avoid a defunct portlet state that would require logout / login. This results in the action result being rendered on the custom launch page.
