PM15953: FEATURE PACK FOR SCA ADDNODE VALIDATION IS TOO STRICT

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A version 7 node with the Feature Pack for Service Component
    Architecture(SCA) installed can not be federated into a cell
    via the addNode command if the deployment manager does not
    have the Feature Pack for SCA installed or is not at an
    acceptable version. This behavior is intended, but the
    validation logic is too strict with respect to higher version
    numbers.

    *                  Architecture(SCA)                           *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Validation can prevent the addNode *
    *                      command from succeeding.                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When using the addNode command to add a node with the WebSphere
    Application Server Feature Pack for Service Component
    Architecture (SCA) installed to a deployment manager with a
    higher version number than the node, validation may prevent
    the command from executing.

    When this error occurs you will see the following exception
    message from the addNode command:

    addNode validation has failed. The Feature Pack for SCA is
    installed on this node, but is not installed on the Deployment
    Manager. The Deployment Manager must also have the Feature Pack
    for SCA installed. The node has not been added.

Problem conclusion

  • The validation performed when the addNode command is run was
    made less strict so a WebSphere Application Server Feature
    Pack for Service Component Architecture (SCA) node can be added
    to a deployment manager with a higher version number.

    APAR PM15953 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
    Level (Fix Pack) 1.0.1.7 of WebSphere Application Server v7
    Feature Pack for Service Component Architecture (SCA) Refresh
    Pack. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
