Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All Distributed Data Facility (DDF) users. * * Specifically those using TCP/IP. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Remote client connections to a * * DB2 for z/OS server may hang. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When a remote client system opens a TCP/IP connection to a DB2 for z/OS server, and if the client system happens to reset (TCP/IP connect reset) the connection before DB2's TCP/IP Listener processing can accept the connection request and process it, any subsequent connection requests to the DB2 server will not be processed (or appear to be hanging from the client system's perspective). This problem occurs because the DB2 TCP/IP Listener task is waiting to accept the connection request from the client system, but the connection has already been reset by the client system. As a result, the DB2 TCP/IP Listener task will wait indefinitely for this "non-existing" connection request. This blocks all subsequent connection requests to the DB2 server and effectively causes the DB2 TCP/IP Listener task to be non-functional.
Problem conclusion
DB2 for z/OS TCP/IP Listener processing has been changed to not wait (indefinitely) for connection requests that have been reset by the client system.
