Error description

  • Storage growth is observed in subpool 239 ESQA. The storage
contained SSD eyecatchers. SSDs are "suspended service
descriptors" obtained for PAUSE/RELEASE in this case. The VSM
OWNCOMM data indicated that the SSDs were being getmained by a
PSW in IEAVSRBO. Also, the SSDs were being allocated via
repeated IEAVAPE invocations. IEAVAPE is a pause element macro.

This is caused by WebSphere for z/OS allocating pause elements
that are not being freed. This apar will address this issue.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ESQA storage fills up with SSD blocks *
    * because pause elements are being *
    * allocated but not freed. *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
WebSphere Application Server for z/OS servants do not deallocate
pause elements when a thread ends. For each pause element there
is a control block in ESQA subpool 239. The control block
contains an eyecatcher. The eyecatcher is SSD.

Problem conclusion

  • Updated the code to deallocate the pause element when a thread
    ends.
