APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The config service might emit NullPointerException stack
traces to standard error when querying for attributes in the
config. If run from a command line program, this could
generate a great number of error messages, even when
    the query operation is successful.

    ****************************************************************
In some scenarios a non-fatal failure to initialize internal
components of the config service could result in
NullPointerExceptions occurring while querying attributes in
the configuration. Although the exceptions do not result in a
functional failure of the query operation, they can result in
a lot of stack trace data emitted to the console or log files,
obscuring other information. The exception will take the
    following form:

    java.lang.NullPointerException
        at
    com.ibm.ws.management.commands.properties.resources.common.Prope
    rtiesParser$1.run(PropertiesParser.java:123)
        at
    com.ibm.ws.security.util.AccessController.doPrivileged(AccessCon
    troller.java:118)

    com.ibm.ws.management.commands.properties.resources.common.Prope
    rtiesParser.loadConfigFile(PropertiesParser.java:120)
        at
    com.ibm.ws.management.commands.properties.resources.common.Prope
    rtiesParser.parse(PropertiesParser.java:62)

Problem conclusion

  • Rather than attempting the operation that will cause the null
pointer to occur, we now detect beforehand that an exception
would occur, and continue without triggering it.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.11. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
