Error description
Certain Portal artifacts are stored in a session bound cache. This cache, in turn, uses a ThreadlessObjectCache to store the actual objects. However, when the HTTP session times out, the session bound cache does not properly invalidate the respective objects in the ThreadlessObjectCache. These object, therefore, exist longer than HTTP session which may appear like a memory leak. Of course, these objects are still cleared once the timeout for the underlying ThreadlessObjectCache occurs; still, on a constrained environment this may lead to an OutOfMemeoryException.
Local fix
In order to minimize the effect of this problem, please consider reconfiguring the underlying cache according to the following technote: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21379940
