Error description

  • Migration of WebSphere Application Server V5.1 to WebSphere
Application Server V7.0 on IBM i results in a failure during the
    WASPostUpgrade phase.

The post-upgrade trace shows the following exception message:
    UpgradeBase > handleException Entry
    com.ibm.ws.migration.utility.UpgradeException:
    com.ibm.wsspi.migration.document.exceptions.NotFoundException:
    etc

This message states that the post-migration process is searching
the migration backup data for a directory named "etc", but it is
unable to find that directory. In this scenario, the "etc"
subdirectory does not exist within the migration backup data,
but it does seem to be present in the original V5.1 product
data. The "etc" subdirectory typically contains keystore and
keyring files (related to application server security).

Due to security requirements specific to WebSphere Applicaiton
Server on IBM i, the pre-migration process intentionally does
not cull the security files from the "etc" directory in the
V5.1 product data. However, the post-migration process attempts
to locate the "etc" directory in the migration backup data, and
it produces the error mentioned above when it does not find that
    directory.

Local fix

  • To work around this issue, create an empty directory named "etc"
in the migration backup data. The directory does not need any
files to be copied into it. The post-migration tool will
proceed without error if it is able to read the "etc" directory
    within the migration backup data.

    *                      migrating from V5.1 to V7.0 on iSeries. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
iSeries for V5.1 does not migrate the "etc" dir and therefore
the WASPreUpgrade process did not back it up. WASPostUpgrade
then expects the "etc" to be in the backup dir, and when not
    found will throw an exception.

Problem conclusion

  • Upgrade WASPostUpgrade to not fail on iSeries when the "etc"
directory is not located in the backup directory.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.11. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
