Error description
Threading problem in the weak reference usage
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM WebSphere Application Server * * v7 Feature Pack for Service Component * * Architecture (SCA) Refresh Pack v1.0.1 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Threading problem in the weak * * reference usage * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Under a multithreading and stress test environment, commonj.sdo.helper.SDO.getHelperContextFactory(String implName) may throw a NullPointerException.
Problem conclusion
The implementation of the SDO.getHelperContextFactory method is using the hash map with its value as a weak reference to avoid holding up the memory when the hash value for the HelperContextFactory is no longer used. Although the code has been checking whether the reference is null before retrieving its value, it's still possible to try to retrieve the value when the reference is null under a multithreading and stress test environment. APAR PM06960 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Level (Fix Pack) 1.0.1.3 of WebSphere Application Server v7 Feature Pack for Service Component Architecture (SCA) Refresh Pack.
