Error description
When a view private file has the read-only bit set, there is inconsistent behavior between Windows XP and Windows Vista and later when renaming a file in the MVFS in Windows Explorer and ClearCase Explorer The behavior is exactly the same in command line. The files cannot be renamed. Windows XP: M:\xp_view\xp_vob\dir2?attrib mvfs_test.txt R M:\xp_view\xp_vob\dir2\mvfs_test.txt M:\xp_view\xp_vob\dir2?rename mvfs_test.txt readon_only.txt Access is denied. Windows Vista and later: M:\vista_view\vista_vob?attrib read_only.txt R M:\vista_view\vista_vob\read_only.txt M:\vista_view\vista_vob?rename read_only.txt foo.txt Access is denied. When using Windows XP, you can rename the file in both Windows Explorer and ClearCase Explorer. You are asked 'Are you sure you want to rename the read only file from x_file to y_file ?' You select 'Yes' and the file is renamed. In Windows Vista when you try to perform the same operation in either Windows Explorer or ClearCase Explorer, you receive a message that 'You need permission to perform this action'. The 'Try again' button just gives you the same message. You need to strip the read-only bit in Windows Explorer and then rename the file.
