PM01048: DUPLICATE PER USER PORTLET PREFERENCES GENERATED IN CERTAIN COND ITIONS

Error description

  • WebSphere Portal renders pages incorrectly and the browser does
    not display the page if duplicate per user portlet preferences
    exist.  SystemOut.log contains:
    
    Control       E
    com.ibm.wps.composition.elements.Control getScopedPortletEntity
    EJPEF0025E: The portlet entity for ID [ObjectIDImpl
    '...', PORTLET_ENTITY, VP: ...,
    [Domain: rel], DB: ...] could not be loaded from the database.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Duplicate per user portlet preferences generated in certain
    conditions. This may lead to users seeing wrongly rendered
    pages.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Added check to properly handle a database exception.
    
    Note that this fix requires a manual cleanup:
    
    Cleanup:
    
    1) If your system already shows duplicate portlet instances, you
    would need to manually delete them with xmlaccess by exporting
    the page and removing setting the duplicate entries from
    action="update" to action="delete" and re-import the modified
    script.
    
    2) Please go to the manage portlets portlet and pick the
    portlet
    (definition) for the portletinstance that you removed in1) and
    verify and/or remove the unwanted preferences. Note that some
    portlets store the data in binary format such that you may not
    be able to identify single individual preferences.
