APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • After a STOP command is issued for a WebSphere Application
Server for z/OS server, the Controller completes almost all
of its shutdown processing before receiving an ABENDDC3/
ABENDSDC3 with reason code 000C000B at the very end. The
region is almost completely stopped when the abend occurs, so
there are no side effects other than the abend and associated
    dump.

    ****************************************************************
An ABENDDC3 with reason code 000C000B indicates that a hung
thread was detected during server shutdown. To avoid shutdown
delays and other errors, the region is abended early when this
    condition is detected.

Under some circumstances, the code that detects hung threads
can be overaggressive and abend the region even though the
offending thread would have gone away on its own. In these
situations it is unnecessary to issue the ABENDDC3.

Problem conclusion

  • Code was added that provides a waiting period to allow hung
threads to terminate on their own. When a hung thread is
detected, the waiting period activates. If the hung thread is
still there after a period of time, the region is terminated
with an ABENDDC3 just like before.
