Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users with "SSLFIPSEnable" directive in their*
    * IBM HTP Server configuration, httpd.conf.                    *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Evolving standards require a change to *
    * the default set of SSL protocols accepted for secure *
    * communication.                                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply this fix if SSLFIPSEnable is used. *
    ****************************************************************
    Since May 2008, only a single cipher has been valid under
    FIPS with the SSLv3 protocol. This year, SSLv3 has been removed
    from the guidance entirely. N/A to z/OS.

Problem conclusion

  • When FIPS is enabled, IBM HTTP Server disables SSLv3 support.
    The end result is the same as the following directive prior to
    this APAR: "SSLProtocolDisable SSLv3"

    This fix is targeted for IHS fixpacks:
     - 6.0.2.39
     - 6.1.0.29
     - 7.0.0.7
