Error description

  • DB2 terminated with DSNV086E REASON=00D93001 after numerous
    04E-00E2000E abends from various components trying to get
    storage out of the ADMF IRLM SUBPOOL.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABEND04F DB2 subsystem termination      *
    * occurred when the critical DB2 agent *
    *                      encountered 04E-RC00E2000E abend in     *
    * DSNSFBK while attempting to get *
    * storage from a fixed block pool. *
    * This occurred after many thread abends *
    * from the same overlay. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Storage overlays can result in fixed block control information
    being invalid. When a caller requests a fixed block, some
    validation is done to see if the block is correct. If the
    overlay occurs so that the free chain is broken and points to
    invalid range or offset, the abend occurs. If the abending
    thread is a critical DB2 agent, then DB2 subsystem will
    terminate ABEND04F, else the thread terminates with RC00E2000E.

Problem conclusion

  • This apar addresses getting multiple abends for the same
    overlaid free chain pointer, prior to DB2 termination.
    The bad free chain entry will be set to zero in all
    cases to prevent further abends due to the bad pointer and the
    segment marked as damaged. If it is a critical DB2 agent,
    DB2 will still terminate with the abend04F. If it is a normal
    thread, the agent will be abended with the existing logic for
    RC00E2000E. A dump will be requested in both cases to try to
    identify how the storage was overlaid. This apar does NOT FIX
    the root cause of the overlay as the source was not identified.
