Error description
Crashing behavior and errors may result when doing the following : 1. Do a Manual Explore of a site in AppScan 2. Close the AppScan Browser 3. Click the OK button with Manual Explore Wizard 4. Crash occurs In the AppScanSys.log the following message appear - 'Error : Failed to parse scan configuration XML, in line [line n umber] position [position number]. Invalid unicode characer' at around the same time, even though the characters in the Scan Configuration ? EXPLORE ? Automatic Form Fill do not display any unusual characters. The GuiLog GuiLog.log will display a 'Starting onCriticalError. AppScan internal error occurred' message as well. The problem's cause is a character in the Form Filler and the Ap pScan engine's inability to handle it. The workaround is as follows: When closing the Manual Explore, do not add all parameters to th e Form Fill. Choose the 'Select' option instead and manually se lect which properties to add.
Local fix
Problem summary
AppScan may crash at the end of manual explore when the application contains parameters with double-byte characters in their name/value.
Problem conclusion
We changed the way double-byte characters were transferred to AppScan engine.
