    Also, outgoing connections can fail under load.

Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Sockets may be left open on failed      *
    *                      outgoing connections, resulting in      *
    *                      too many open files in system errors.   *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    If a socket close() is issued on a outgoing connection and the
    close is not successful the socket will not be cleared up
    for an outgoing connection.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The close retry logic is performed so that if a close() is not
    successful the close() will be redriven after a short interval.
    
    APAR PK88000 is currently targeted for inclusion in
    Service Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.29 of WebSphere
    Application Server V6.1
