APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The WebContainer is not throwing the SocketException back to
    the application code. This is causing the application code to
    be unaware of the interrupted requests.
    The APAR PK80075 addresses the issue at the ChannelFrameWork
    level where as this APAR addresses the same issue at the
    WebContainer level. In order to resolve the issue both the APARS
    need to be applied.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When reading a request input data *
    * stream an application does not *
    * receive an exception if the client *
    * does not send a complete request body. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    If a client closes a connection such that a request body is
    not completely sent to the WebSphere Application Server, an
    IOException is generated. The WebContainer logs and suppresses
    the exception. As a result, an application can be unaware that
    the request was terminated early.

Problem conclusion

  • The WebContainer code was modified to re-throw the IOException
    so that it can be handled by the application. A WebContainer
    custom property needs to be set for this to take effect

    com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.channel.rethrowsioexception = true
    (default is false)

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 6.0.2.39
