    ****************************************************************
JSR-175 - A Program Annotation Facility for the Java
Programming Language" introduced annotations as a standard
mechanism of adding metadata to Java classes. Because of the
performance issues associated with reflection and because
classes are not always loadable at deployment, byte-code
scanning technology is used to retrieve annotation metadata.
While the byte-code scanning operation is efficient, customers
deploying JEE5 applications containing a large number of
classes will experience long deployment times because every
class within the application must be inspected.

Problem conclusion

  • A configurable filtering function was added to reduce
the number of classes that are searched for annotations.
The Deployer can now identify which modules and/or
Java packages to ignore for annotations processing
purposes through two new properties: Ignore-Scanning-Archives
and Ignore-Scanning-Packages. A default set of values are
provided in the amm.filter.properties file that resides in
    <WAS_HOME>/properties.

These default values may be changed by an Administrator or
augmented by the user in following ways:

    1. An amm.filter.properties file may be placed in
    <PROFILE_HOME>/properties.

    2. System properties can be used to provide these values:
    * The 'com.ibm.ws.amm.scan.context.filter.archives' system
property can be used to supply values for the
    Ignore-Scanning-Archives property.

    * The 'com.ibm.ws.amm.scan.context.filter.packages' system
property can be used to supply values for the
    Ignore-Scanning-Packages property.

    3. Ignore-Scanning-Archives and Ignore-Scanning-Packages
entries can be made to the application's manifest,
    META-INF/MANIFEST.MF

    4. Ignore-Scanning-Archives and Ignore-Scanning-Packages
entries can be made to the module's manifest.

The values from these various sources are unioned together to
provide both coarse and fine grained control over the
search scope for annotations processing. Use of the
Ignore-Scanning-Archives will reduce deployment times more
    than use of the Ignore-Scanning-Packages.

The syntax for the Ignore-Scanning-Archives and
Ignore-Scanning-Packages properties follows the Comma Separated
Value convention. No wildcards or REGEX expressions are
permitted. Note, values are case-sensitive. As a cautionary
note, exercise care when updating the Manifest. The
Manifest has line length limitations and other constraints
    to bear in mind.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.5. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
