Error description

  • When customer uses a non-zero value for the ServerIOTimeout

    pops.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Responses may be delayed for a fixed *
    * period of 30 seconds or the current *
    *                      AppServer KeepAlive timeout             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply this fix if a transport in *
    *                  plugin-cfg.xml uses both SSL and            *
    *                  ServerIOTimeout.                            *
    ****************************************************************
    If a non-zero ServerIOTimeout is used with an SSL transport in
    plugin-cfg.xml, the WebSphere Plugin may block at the end of a
    response under the false impression that data isn't currently
    available. The Plugin is not unblocked until the Application
    Server closes the HTTP/1.1 keepalive connection, at which
    point the remaining data is acknowledged.

    Corresponding Application Server traces show that all data was
    flushed without delay. TCP packet captures show the Plugin
    didn't unblock until an SSL close_notify or TCP FIN was
    received.

Problem conclusion

  • The WebSphere Plugin was updated to exhaust all data potentially
    buffered by the security library before performing a poll() or
    select() on the underlying socket.

    APAR PK84363 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
    Level (Fix Pack) 6.0.2.37 of WebSphere Application Server
    V6.0 of the WebSphere Plugin.
