PK83823: 6.1 REMOTE RENDERING PORTLET UNAVAILABLE ON PORTAL 6.0

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When configuring or editing shared settings of the 6.1 remote
  rendering portlet on Portal 6.0 you see the "This portlet is
  unavailable." error and a NoClassDefFoundException for the
  com/ibm/portal/app/service/exceptions/ApplicationException class
  is printed in the logs.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• The ApplicationException class is new in Portal 6.1 and not
  available in Portal 6.0. This class should not be used by the
  remote rendering portlet as it must maintain backwards
  compatibility.
  

Problem conclusion

• The ApplicationException class was not being directly referenced
  by the remote rendering portlet but it was included in another
  class that the remote rendering portlet uses and this class
  could not be instanciated in Portal 6.0 with this dependaency on
  the Portal 6.1 ApplicationException class. The Portal 6.1
  dependant methods were moved to another class that is not used
  by the remote rendering portlet.
